The origins of AirSkunk trace back to my junior high school notebook. I took an interest in aviation and began drawing a shortened Boeing 747 that looked like a toddler version of the big airliner. The little 747 frequently appeared in my doodles and homework, and became a personal trademark.
So imagine my surprise when I spotted this Philippine Airlines advertisement in Newsweek Magazine. The ad introduced Philippine's cozy business class service and featured a highly-stylized 747SP, the slightly-shortened version of the 747.
I was personally affronted that their rendition of the airplane so closely resembled mine - "HEY! They STOLE my airplane!" Rather than taking on Philippine Airlines at the tender age of 16 (I certainly didn't know of any intellectual property attorneys hungry for a high school case), I channeled my energies into a "competitive" concept:
